I'm just going on what I read in articles I found on the web. One person was a
racer who had used a load of these sensors and reckoned they only lasted a
couple of hours when exposed to exhaust from leaded fuel.(see
http://rclsgi.eng.ohio-state.edu/~orlin-s/sensor.html)
I was also sent some extracts from the Bosch Automotive Electrical/Electronic
Systems Handbook by a kind lister who sent me a spare sensor and this very
technical extract says,
"Presuming correct operating conditions, the heated lambda sensors in series
production today have service lives of over 100,000km. However, in order to
avoid damaging the active outer platinum electrode the engine must be operated
with unleaded fuel".

Thanks, I take your points. I'd thought along similar lines as well but I guess
I can't see any point in a permanent O2 sensor if it's going to get trashed by
lead contamination after a short time. I'm really only going on the articles I
read so if anyone on the list has experience of using these sensors in the
presence of leaded exhaust gases I'd be really pleased to hear from you,
thanks
Andy
