Easy now Allen,
Your frustration is understandable and your desire to take out said
frustrations on an inanimate object (Lucas alternator) can be easily
justified. We've all been there, no doubt. With my luck, I'd probably
break something else in the engine compartment or my bloody finger
whilst wielding the crowbar. :)
I would have to suspect something else besides the alternator. I don't
believe the car actually runs hotter because the lights are on. Perhaps
the gauge moves higher because of a fault in the wiring circuit when the
lights are turned on. It sounds  to me like the alternator is working
okay. Just a guess. I'm not the Dan Masters-type electrical whiz.
