I'm on the Digest, so forgive me if this has already been mentioned.

Technically you're correct. In practice, however, there is a 
difference. If you're only concerned about theft, then which one you 
break doesn't matter. However, for reasons of safety, you should really 
break the ground connection (positive or negative) if you're going to 
be working on the vehicle.
