Isaac,
The smaller flanges are from a 1970 (MKIII) Spitfire or earlier, so you
modified a 1970 or earlier SPITFIRE drive shaft.  ALL GT6's had the larger
(stronger) flanges common to Spitfire's from 71 and on.  The actual U-joint
itself is the same for all years GT6 and Spitfire.  The flanges are
different between the years mentioned above. (Brian are you listening, get
rid of the old diff :-})
Yes, all you need do is swap the flanges for the larger ones, and the shaft
will remain the same length.  By the way, the above goes for rear axle
flanges as well, which are the same part - so if  anyones thinking of
changing to a later diff in your earlier Spitfire you need to change these
as well -
