This weekend I found a pleasant surprise in the Fat Chance Garage PO box, an
unsolicited donation from a grateful list subscriber. I won't mention the name
here, I'll just say it is one of the over 7,300 people who subscribe to one or
more of the 40 lists run from this box. Such occasions are quite welcome, as
they reinforce the notion that what I am up to is really appreciated by those
who benefit from the efforts I volunteer on their behalf.

So this seems like a good time to ask for more of the same. What I'd like is
for those of you who feel you benefit from whichever of the lists you are on
to follow suit and drop a check in the mail. This request assumes, of course,
you have a few dollars to spare before the onslaught of bills from the past
holidays hit, and you find the lists worthwhile and you are agreeable to such
a solicitation.

In the past, I've asked for funds for increased disk space and hardware sorts
of stuff, but this time the request is for you to support the, uh, shall we say
the FCG Beverage fund. Long time list members as well as those who've met me
in person may recall I have a weakness for various types of fermetned barley
based beverages. This is your chance to buy a round in appreciation of what
you get from the list. So, if you feel so inclined, send off a check, payable
in United States dollars to the order of Fat Chance Garage, to:

Fat Chance Garage
PO Box 58333
Salt Lake City, Utah 84158

Of course, if you happen to be broke at the moment, or getting US Dollars is a
major pain, or you simply can't stand the thought of having to send off money
for this sort of drivel, then I request that you do nothing, and continue to
read the list with no guilt. The lists are still free, requiring nothing more
than a valid email address and some comprehension of the underlying concepts
and responsibilities of an email list. I'm just asking those who feel like
they would like to contribute to the continued existence of these lists to
do so. Geez, I better shut up soon, before I start acting like I'm in one
of the semi-annual funds drives the local non-commercial public radio and TV
stations put on.

I'll just say thanks to those of you who send in a donation, and best wishes
to all in the coming year.

mjb.
