Tim,
Having spent the majority of my adult life in West Texas, my first guess
is that the engine may have accumulated sand from the raviges of the
West Texas wind.  You can imagine what that will do to main bearings. 
When the mains go, so does your oil pressure.  

I wonder why, however, there was Gasoline in the oil!!!  Had somebody
attempted to cleasns the oil pan and not gotten the "solvent" properly
removed?  Leaves one to speculate, doesn't it.
