Cliff,

Just a thought, but your rattle might be a loose transmission input shaft
bushing (I mean the one in the flywheel). That is an often overlooked,
acceleration-related area.

As far as recording the sound, if you have a cordless or cell phone, try
getting an assistant to sit in the car with you and record a message on your
answering machine.  Thats hoe I got a .wav file of the first time I started
my TR-3 after rebuilding the engine.
