Synthetic is good.   It might increase oil leaks, if you have them.   It
will not put back any metal that has worn away, sorry.   (Pep Boys has a
house brand that is OK.   Less money, no advertizing budget)

You don't have to pull the pan to check your thrust washers.  Just mesure
the end play of the crank at the front pully.   Use a dial gauge.  Push it
all the way back with engin off.   Set up your gauge, get in, push in the
clutch (this will drive the crank fowrard) and check the play.   It is a
good idea to test several times to see that you are getting a consistent
mesurment.   Now, if you have too much, pull the pan and go at it.
