Derek, the following is from the Official Workshop Manual and applies to
the high-compression engines (8:1 or 8.5:1).

With timing set at 0 deg. at a DISTRIBUTOR speed of <100rpm (NOTE: all
speeds here are for the Distributor; multiply by two for engine speeds),
run the engine to 2500 rpm, which should be a maximum of 10 deg advance.
On decelerating, dist. speeds/advance should be:
2000 -- 8-10 deg.
1500 -- 6-8 deg.
1000 -- 4-6 deg.
 500 -- 3/4-3 deg.
 450 -- 1/2- 1 1/2 deg.

There should be no advance below 120 rpm.

Hope that helps.
