I want to concur with Chris Bullock's post regarding seatbelts in a TR6.
My '72, CC78196L, had belts you adjusted and clipped onto the floor via
eyebolt style devices. My '73, CF8796UO has the inertia belts.

Now as regarding VTR Concours judging. Last year in Albany I headed up
the team that judged 250's, 6's and Stags. You know what? Not a one of
them had a period accessory to even consider, that I recall. My vote
for the best of show went to the early (69, I think) TR6. Absolutely
one of the very best Triumphs I have ever seen in my life. Virtually
flawless.
The two areas that were deducted were: the car had chromed washers on
the front fender bolts and some surface rust on the alternator fan--
considering the amount of rain that day maybe we shouldn't have counted
off for that! There was also an absolutely stunning 250 we judged that
had probably the same minute level of deductions (note: the people
judging the cars do not score the cars so we don't which cars have the
least deductions at the time). I think our team could have chosen
either of these cars as best of show; they were that good. Another
point. If
any of us had any questions, we ALWAYS consulted the other members of
the team for their input. Each member of the team is assigned an
area--suspension/underbody; interior; engine compartment; exterior. Of
course all of us looked at each area some. On one question we had we
consulted George Raby, the Chief Judge of the VTR, for clarification.
In my experience, the judges are truely committed Triumph enthusiast who
want to do the very best job they can.

Let me put in a plug for all those who haven't entered their car into
concours for one reason or the other. When I first entered my cars, I
was scared to death. I was afraid people would laugh at me, point out
all of the things wrong with my car, etc. Guess what? They were the
nicest people! They knew I was nervous and did their best to put me at
ease. They were kind, considerate and made me feel good as they judged.
After that, I got involved. Then I'd walk up and down the rows of cars
at the VTR conventions looking and thinking "That car would place, that
one is a class winner, etc." Of course, it's their choice where people
show their cars!

Sorry this has gone on for so long. Come to the GATHERING this weekend
in Winston-Salem, N.C. at REYNOLDA HOUSE & VILLAGE.
