Sorry to butt in, maybe this has been answered already.

Yes, there is a connection.  The bikes cane first.  Bicycles, then
motorbikes, 74 years ago the first car.   Anyone who want s the whole story
can pick up any authoritative book on the marque or read back issues of
TriumphWorld magazine.

The cars were losing money  so Sigfried Bettman, the founder,  sold the car
division to the Standard motor company in about 1937 (I think).   Hence the
Standard Triumph name,  and the comon  lineage of the two.  The rest most
people know.

To the best of my knowledge the current TR bikes share nothing more than the
name with any former owner, much like Bugatti.    Wonderful bikes though.
We have  a dealer here in Winnipeg and my nerve to test ride a Daytona Super
3 was overshadowed by the $17,000 Cdn price tag, which  oddly enough I
didn't have.    Still  dont,  most in the GT 6 now.  Oh well,
