In a message dated 97-03-28 18:03:16 EST, you write:

<< Dan, the instructions are in the VTR archives, but here goes # 1 reverse
wires on amp. gauge, #2 reverse wires on coil # 3 reverse batt. cables
 # 4 polarize generator by grounding it from voltage reg.. thats it no
heater motor, no gauges no changes of any kind, just polaeize gen.. send
me your home add. i will forward you TRA article from 1985.been there
 done that >>

Thanks greatly for the info. I will check the VTR archives, and I do
appreciate your sending me the TRA article.

My Address is:

That confirms what I thought, except for the heater motor and the starter.
Evidently, the earlier TRs used a diiferent heater motor than the TR6. I ran
a test on my TR6 fan motor, and it ran backward with reversed polarity.
(might be good in a hot climate - blow cool cockpit air out the vent to cool
the heater coil, for extra engine cooling?) The starter motor really
surprises me, I would have thought for sure that would need changing. I guess
I should have paid more attention in the classes on motors!

In a previous post, I offered to provide instructions for converting a TR4A
from a generator to a late model GM alternator. Surprisingly, I got no takers
from a TR4A owner, but I had several requests from TR3 & TR4 owners, even got
one from an Austin-Healy owner. The alternator swap part was no problem, but
I have no personal experience with the ground conversion.

Thanks again for the info: now I can carry on the good deed, and help out
with the alternator conversion for our positive ground brethern.

Dan Masters,
Alcoa, TN
