Fellow Scions,

I really hate to bring up this FAQ, but I forgot to save a copy
of this thread. I couldn't find it in the archives, and the VTR
website didn't answer this clearly. Neither did did reading the
labels on the oil bottle/cans. (See, I tried)

I seem to remember the general consensus was that GL-5 was some-
how corrosive to the bronze bushings/synchros and should not be used.
Except for "Redline" brand, which is a non-corrosive GL-5.

But I can't beleive that it's that bad, because if its all that's
available (as it would appear) then everybody with a standard trans-
mission has no option than to add a potentially corrosive oil to their
transmissions. Can this be? And how can this have been approved of
by the API, or whoever tests oils?

But that was fine, and that was how I remembered things. Then I went
shopping for some GL-4. I could'nt find any in all the stores and
all the brand names of oil I tried. I think the only place to get
some was TRF. I would hate to have to wait half a week to get some
oil, especially if I could use GL-5 tommorrow.

To save bandwith (due to my neglect in saving pertenant information)
please Re:mail to me directly.

   Slowly reassembling my four speed,

                              JOE IV
