Didn't do any wild radical wheel or gear changes did you?

Been inside the speedo itself recently?  If it isn't the gearing at the end of 
the speedo 
cable, I'd be suspicious of the magnet(s) in the speedo head itself.  Things 
can get 
knocked out of whack there.
