Here is a New Zealand example, spanning almost 30 years;
1947 Ford 10 - gutless easyroll
1952 Morris Minor - even more gutless, but handled OK
1956 Holden FJ - 40's baby Buick style
1955 Standard 10 - Morris Minor equivalent
1966 Triumph Spitfire - Great fun
1964 Anglia Van - Modified
1957 Triumph TR3 - Racing history, but rusted to bits
1960 Volkswagen Beetle - Indestructible
1964 MGB - Tatty, but after a rebuild and modification, fast
1971 Mini de Joux - Rebodied in fibreglass two seater style, inspired
by Ferrari 250GT. Should have
kept this.
1967 Volkswagen Beetle
1967 MGB - Sprinzel tuned
1964 Jaguar Mk 2 3.8 - Brilliant, but hard to run on a university
student budget. Should have kept it.
1968 Triumph Vittesse 2000 - Lots of fun, but not the right image
1967 MGBGT - Arrival of first child
1967 Mini Cooper S - Immaculate low mileage car - should have kept
it. Got a hard time from MG Car club for winning most events.
1968 MGB - Best I owned - should have kept it
1964 Triumph 2000 - To make up for buying the last MGB
1965 Daimler 250V8 - Arrival of second child
1969 Jaguar XJ6 2.8 - Unsatisfactory engine
1972 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 - Much better
1981 Honda Accord - First new car. Tinny, but reliable
1972 Datsun 240Z - Gret toy, but not considered a classic then
1958 Jaguar Mk 1 3.4 - Restoration project
1976 BMW 320 - Head wore out at 50,000 miles
1979 Fiat 131R - Had previously raced, went great, but fell apart
1978 Porsche 924 - Almost brand new - threw a rod on the race track
1981 Porsche 924 Turbo - Under rated
1979 Audi 100 5E - Cracked its cylinder head
1961 Jaguar Mk 9 - Lived in a museum
1978 Jaguar XJS
1964 Jaguar Mk 2 3.8 - Should have kept this one also
1984 Subaru Touring Wagon - Second car
1977 Mercedes 450 SE - Great until dropped off a hoist by local garage
1982 BMW 323i = Surprisingly quick on grasstracks, etc
1986 Landrover County V8
1975 Porsche 911 - Most fun of all, but victim of divorce
1986 Toyota Corolla GT Twin Cam
1982 BMW 735i - Also cracked its cylinder Head (making 2 out of 3!)
1986 Honda Prelude 2.0si - Modified by Tomy Kairu. Fast, but soulless
1986 Honda Legend
1986 Mazda 323 1.6 TwinCam Turbo 4WD - Fast on gravel, but soulless
1986 Mitsibushi Pajero Turbo Diesel
1972 Mini Clubman 1275GT - Rare - aussie built with Cooper S gear
Current Stable;
1988 VW Golf Cli - Drive car
1979 Mini LE1000 - Kids runabout
1971 Mini Cooper S - Being rebuilt
1969 Mini - Awaiting rebuild as Cooper S Replica racecar
1968 Riley Elf - Complete with 1330 motor, Cooper discs, tanks, etc.
Will be rebuilt as standard
1969 Triumph 2.5 Mk 1 - Also being developed for classic racing
Sort of puts it in perspective (and makes you feel old) when you list it
all out - I can better understand some of the wifely sideways glances in
the past. Still, its so much fun and satisfaction to build and drive a 30
year old car which will keep up with and outperform many new technoboxes.
The biggest problem here is that from september this year, leaded petrol is
banned.
