Another verion Glenn Efinger brought to Sebring VTR Regional was a
Stag Valve cover with a large number of Estes rocket motors mounted to it.
No control once started but very entertaining when going through all the
stages while wedged under a Blazer's oil pan in the parking lot..

Yup, it's a hoot. You get a radio controlled chassis of some
sort, (the 4X4 chassis' are popular) and fit the valve cover of
your choice on top instead of a car/truck body. Then try to race
it through a slalom, drag strip or both. It seems to inspire the
wackiness in people, even more so than our peculiar LBC's.
Sometimes there are classes for unpowered ones too that you pull
through the course on a string running madly in front of it, but
only the kids have energy enough for that.

I seen quite a few valve cover races, all of them at local hot rod
meets, etc. And, yes, they are a hoot! As to the hot rodders,
they usually hold a drag race type of event (they are hot rodders
after all), where two parallel tracks are lined up, virtually
identical to the type of track used to race the carved wooden race
cars we all made in the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. You know,
raised several feet at one end and about 100 feet long. Anyways,
there is an electric "gate" that lifts from in front of both of
both "race cars" at the same time and the winner is the one to
cross the finish line first. Some guys obviously need to get a
life, however, as evidenced by the amount of time, money and
energy expended on making their "race car" look awesome. Oh, BTW,
at the bigger events there are different "classes" for the
different sizes and types of valve covers. E.g., there are
"classes" for Chrysler Hemi head covers, Ford and Chevy big block,
Ford and Chevy small block, in-line 6 cylinder heads, even "furrin
car" valve covers such as Datsun and Honda.

Boy, I bet I just told you more than you ever wanted to know about
this stuff, huh?
