This is my second response.
I forgot to mention that when my brother and I experienced the similar clutch
failure it was on cars which use cables to actuate thte clutch. Obviously
this was not a problem with air in the hydrolics.
I think the problem is a failure in the clutch pressure plate (cover) where
the pivots for the pressure springs give out and the springs do not supply
the force required for proper clutch operation. The only solution is clutch
removal and, in the case of the more recent cars, replacement of the parts.
