Dear list members,

as another new subscriber to this list I have been reading your knowledgeable
(and very humorous) posts for a couple of weeks now and have now decided to
bother you with my little problem.

My 79 Spitfire has developped a chirping (my limited english vocabulary has bo
better word for that) noise from the rear wheels. It does not sound by any
means severe but it is just plain annoying. I do not generally detest getting
looked
at when I drive by, but a hate the thought that it is not because of the car or
my
girlfriend in the passenger seat but because of the noise.

As my mechanical experience is limited to changing exhausts and disc brake pads
I do not really know what to look for. (brakes, suspension, wheel bearings???)
It seems to me that the sound is regular (once per wheel revolution) and stops
as soon as I touch the brakes.

The brakes are a story by themselves (I am not at all satisfied with their
stopping power!) but I will bother you with that later.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated by a newcomer to the scene.
