Ashley,
thanks for this interesting info. I'll have to take your word on the worm 
drive appearance as as I'm sure you'll appreciate I'm not planning to 
dis-assemble an OD which I paid for somebody else to recondition (one of 
the main reasons for getting someone else to do the job so that if it 
goes wrong they're the ones who have to fix it...).
So it sounds to me as if my recon OD comes from something other than a 
Vitesse (i.e. something with wheels other than 13 inch) and therefore has 
the wrong worm start. That certainly makes sense, and I'll put it to 
Rimmer Brothers just as soon as I've finished catching up on my mail to 
see if anyone else has come up with any brainwaves.
