FWIW, I believe the black surround began for the 1970 model year on the
TR6, much as it did for Spitfire and GT6+ of that year. Sort of a
"corporate" thing, but not continued on Spitfires and GT6s as the body
change resulted in a different windshield frame and glass for those cars.
