MG Midget 1500's had the Spitfire motor and transmission.  No overdrive
option was offered.  And I do not know if the gearing is different.  BTW,
 the Midgets are great drive train parts sources for your Spit.  I slavaged
starters, electronic ignitions, carbs, smog stuff, and manifolds, althought
the exhaust isn't quite right for routing the pipe past the frame.
