 Gary
It is the ring gear that is threaded either 3/8'" or 7/16", not the housing=
. The housing has the=C2=A0through=C2=A0holes, and I've have never seen any=
1/2" threads or holes. Check your memory. LOL
You could use stepped bolts, but that is only needed when you install Ameri=
can ring gears (3/8" threads) on British housings (7/16") holes. Generally =
it's the other way around, namely original 2.88 British gears with 7/16" th=
reads on an American differential with 3/8 " holes machined out to 7/16".
IMO sleeves are much cheaper. Just buy the correct tubing and slice it the =
thickness of the housing lip.

If memory serves, when the differential itself has 7/16 inch threads and t=
he ring gear is machined with 1/2 inch diameter holes there are two options=
:

Use a stepped ring gear bolt that has a grip (unthreaded portion of the sha=
nk) of 1/2 inch with 7/16 thread such as ARP 350-3004

Use a bolt that is fully 7/16 inch in which case 1/2 to 7/16 ring gear bolt=
sleeves are used such as Yukon gear YSPBLT-028.

Neither is needed if both the ring gear and differential are machined/threa=
ded for the same diameter.

for any newer gear sets, just did one for and E type and it came with the b=
