Jim,
People have found out that if the ground wire from engine to chassis is no=
t=20
 clean and tight that all kinds of problems crop up. If you haven't=20
checked that I would suggest that as one of your steps.

Hi Listers,
=20
Thank you all for your feedback. I thought I would give an update. It =20
seems I have 2 problems. Everything went dead because it seems I have a lo=
ose =20
connection somewhere along the battery wire (brown) to the V/R. I suspect=
 my =20
ammeter and the wiring for it have something to do with that.=20
=20
The bigger problem is that my car is still NOT charging. This was my orig
inal problem and the reason I replaced the V/R in the first place. Now my=
 =20
ignition warning light is on full time. Many of you felt it was the genera=
tor,=20
 at least one believed it is a fault in the wiring. I too believed it was=
 a=20
 generator problem. So today I removed the generator and took it to be=20
rebuilt. I asked if we could bench test it before going through the effor=
t/cost=20
of rebuilding. They hooked up the generator and it tested out fine. We=20
then added in the new and old V/Rs to the test. With the new V/R hooked=
 up=20
with the generator, it tested out at 12.7v...a little anemic. But with th=
e old=20
V/R connected (which I had just replaced), the test showed the generator=
=20
putting out a solid 14.5v (+/- a tenth or so).
=20
Bottomline...generator and V/R tested out fine. So it=E2=80=99s onto the=
  wiring..
=20
Again, thanks for all the input and given the updated info we are still =
=20
open to any ideas.

Hi All

I was getting my Tiger ready for the season and I noticed that I was not=
=20
getting a charge at idle. The more the car warmed up, the more rpms it=20
needed to keep the ignition lite off. Over the years I have experienced=
 problems=20
keeping a voltage regulator for any great length of time. They just seem=
=20
to give up after not so long. This time I did pretty well=E2=80=A6it last=
ed over a=20
year. I checked the battery and generator just to be sure=E2=80=A6the bat=
tery had a=20
full charge and the generator was generating.

So I switched out the v/reg for one I purchased from SS as a backup last=
=20
year. I have done this installation a couple of times so I was confident,=
=20
even with my minimal  skills.

I got the new v/reg in. Reconnected the battery but When I went to=20
polarize it (touch F wire and B wire momentarily per Shop Manual)=E2=80=A6=
nothing.  I=20
checked my connections (Brown to Batt terminal=E2=80=A6Brn/Grn to Fld ter=
minal=E2=80=A6Brn/Yel=20
to Arm terminal) all were correct. I double checked battery=E2=80=A6full=
 charge.

Thinking the v/reg might be bad, I reinstalled the old one=E2=80=A6same=
 results=E2=80=A6
nothing.

I installed new one again=E2=80=A6same results.

The only other action I took was to disconnect the terminals on the=20
generator and cleaned them up. I checked to make sure I reconnected them=
=20
correctly.

I took a chance and turned on the ignition=E2=80=A6dead.

After taking a break I went back out and did some more inspection and=20
testing. Not sure if it made a difference but I found the battery wire (b=
rown)=20
spade connector at the fuse box loose. I crimped it down and got a much=
=20
tighter fit. The v/reg still would not polarize so I then took some readi=

with my multimeter. Here are the readings=E2=80=A6
