Gary, The NOS one is also marked SPARTO Ref. No. 5911 on the plastic
lens. The top black part is non magnetic metal painted? black and held
to the lens by bent over metal tabs on the ends and two clips inside the
middle. All painted? black on the inside and outside.
The clear lens is painted black on the on the two outside corners.
Inside photo below.

David,
Yours is definitely NOS but it must be a "cost reduced" Chrysler part.
At least from the picture, it looks like it is plastic on the exposed
part.
Mine is Mk I and has an aluminum(?) cover over clear plastic.
BUT, looking through the clear plastic to the underside of the aluminum,
it does look black, and there is black paint on the ends and inside ends
of the clear plastic. On the outside in the back edge is where it
does
looks faded brown...

Inside molded in is the manufacturer:
SPARTO Ref. No. 5911

It looks like the Alpine guys have been pondering this too:

My NOS map light cover is satin black in color. I believe the
brownish, gold, silver are just various shades of faded color. See photo
links.
