Chuck,

The C.G. depends on  the state of assembly.  With the motor and axles
in, the CG is considerably different than the hollow shell.  Since your
rotisserie rotates, your going to know really quickly whether your
higher mounting is making it easier, or more difficult to rotate.  It
would be easiest if the center of rotation went directly through the
center of gravity.

If it flops over, because of top heavy, or bottom heavy, you'll get the
clue. Measuring the forces required to rotate it from a rest (unclamped)
position can be used to determine the C.G. relative to your rotation
axis.
