Tony,
You do not have to remove those splash plates. A simple hole saw, applied to
the
plate in the area where the two adjusting nuts interfere, will cure the problem.
The plates do not run the full length of the cover, an only two rockers per side
are affected. Now some of these covers are repros, and it may be 3 on a side,
but
all 8.
