Chris,

It usually goes something like this. We are both at a light. He looks at my
car and me with a
smirk and a sneer. I look at his P.O.S. down my uplifted nose. We both look
at the green
opposite light to watch for the change to yellow. The revs start climbing.
The pulse
quickens. The foot depresses the clutch and first is engaged. A light film of
sweat appears
on my brow. The revs climb even more.

The light turns yellow. Another quick look for babies in strollers, cops,
pregnant women,
cops, and the light goes green. The revs climb in synchronicity with the
smooth clutch
engagement. The wheels dig in, and your back is pressed firmly into the seat.
Your heart
beats faster as the revs climb, and you fast-shift to second at the peak of
your acceleration.
The clutch comes flying back, slipping a little, then a satisfying chirp or
rubber spinning
cheers you on. You look ahead. He isn't there, you look alongside, and he is
4 feet from your
door. You've 'shut him down', a gentle back off to the speed limit, a
satisfying rush of
adrenaline, and a big S-E grin on your face. Your back straightens, your chest
swells, your
breathing is rapid but sure, your heart is light, and you are feeling mellow.
What a wonderful
day this is.

Or, at least, so I've heard. {9->
