Tony,

If you want to keep your firewall stock, you do not want a stock Autolite
(Ford) 4 barrel from the 60's. The diaphragm for the secondaries is on the
back side of the carb and usually hits the firewall in front of the heater
cavity. This applies to the F4B manifold and may also be a problem with the
stock cast iron intake manifold. Make some measurements on your car using
the intake manifold bolt holes as a reference so you can check out the
offerings at the swap meet.

Holley provided Ford OEM carbs for some of the Ford performance cars and the
Muscle Parts program of the 70's. The Carter AFB and its derivatives are
compact and work well on a 260. They are more difficult to tune than a
Holley but are less prone to leakage.

There was a thread a while back about using the Pertronix electronic
ignition conversion. One of my friends is using one in his boat with
success. You can also convert to a Duraspark II set up from a mid to late
70's 302.
