Scoot Fisher, an old-timer on the SOL digest, is organizing the 5th
annual Day Before the British Car Day, a drive in the bay area, on
Saturday, Sept. 7. Here's the message about it that appeared on SOL
earlier this week.

Apologies to those on SOL for the duplication.

It's here! It's here!

The Day Before The Britcars Day is taking place!

Thanks to tremendous support from the British car community, both
electronically and physically, we're able to hold the Fifth Annual
Day Before The Britcars Day tour and get-together as planned. I
will be forced to absent myself for part of the middle of the day,
but that's happened before... :-)

We're making one change, starting a little earlier than in the past
and leaving at 9 AM. Because of my schedule conflicts, this message
includes an itinerary with basic directions; you are encouraged to
print these out and check some of the directions/locations on a map
if you haven't been on the tour before.

1. Drive up Arastradero to King's Mountain and thence to the
summit; stop at Hwy. 35 to cool down & see if there are any
blackberries left.

2.  Down Tunitas Creek, left at the Y (sign says Cabrillo Highway);
turn LEFT on Highway 1.

3. After the crest of the hill, turn LEFT on Stage Road. This
drops you in front of the San Gregorio General Store. Rest stop,
fluid exchange, and stretch of legs.

4. Over Stage Road (cross hwy 84) and stop at Norm's Market, the
Hot Bread Store. Buy bread and cheese or sandwiches there.

5. Down Pescadero Road to Hwy 1, turn LEFT.

6. Proceed approx 20 miles to Bonny Doon Road, turn LEFT.

7. Stop at Bonny Doon Winery (on right, about 5 miles up).

8. At this point the tour will separate; local subgroup
leaders can develop individual itineraries, with the plan
being to regroup at:

The White Cockade, Highway 9
Estimated time to begin regrouping: 4:30 PM.

Suggested escapades: Big Basin State Park is particularly great,
and there is a Donald Healey Memorial Redwood Grove there. There
is also another winery on Felton Empire Road just off Hwy 9,
Hallcrest, with a wonderful view.

I will rejoin the tour at The White Cockade between 4:30 and 5 PM.
(I'm delivering awards at a festival for the digital filmmakers
course I've been teaching all summer, which is the only thing
that can drag me away -- well, that and if Ed McMahon was handing
me a check for ten million dollars.)

The following description is reprinted from last year's event, with
the date and time changed to reflect this Saturday's timing.

When: Satuday, September 7, 1996, 9:00 AM.

How much: As always, this event is free.

Where: Palo Alto Elks Club Lodge Parking Lot, on El Camino Real just
logical-south of Arastradero Road. There are several breakfast spots
(Denny's and Hobee's) across the street, and lots of room for us to park and
wait for the crowd to show up.

We will have at least one Special Guest: our own list maintainer and
all-around British Car Hero Guy, Mark J. Bradakis, will be attending
the tour in person! This is a great opportunity to put a face to
the postings and tireless work that goes into maintaining these lists
and the Web sites.

I look forward to seeing the people who make it every year, and to
meeting new people for whom this is the first of many Days Before
The Britcars Day.

Thanks,

- --Scott Fisher
