My dashpots (standard carb, engine oil) eat a lot of oil for some reason, so
it gets low periodically. The engine starts running roughly at lower rpm's
(I never drive above 4500 rpm), which is invariably solved by topping up the
oil. I am willing to bet that many of the people who constantly fuss with
their carb adjustments could eliminate their problems by topping up the
dashpot oil.
