There are 4 screw holes in the metal shifter "turret", Lester. They "match" same in the body transmission tunnel metal bodywork (under the carpet, no doubt:). Sounds like you need a new rubber shift "boot" as well. The heat from the transmission itself helps destroy these. I go through "boots" at about one every two years or so.
