Have you given any thought to using a large C clamp? Mount the clamp in a large 
vise. Find a drift of the correct size to push the pin out and a piece of pipe 
for it to go through on the far side of the piston. Use steady pressure instead 
of hammering it.

An able assistant is a good thing if available too. Helps to get the setup 
started.
