i know GM had a problen for years with "heat soak" causing the starter solenoid
to fail when extremly hot. the repair was to install a ford type solenoid in
GM trucks(mostly). i have not done one of these repairs for around 20 years
now and for the life of me can not find the darn schematics for the correct way
to rewire the darn thing. i had a copy of the GM bulletin at 1 time and it's
here somewhere....i think? does anyone have that diagram available?
there is another route but it's an "iffy" repair to install a heavy duty GM
solenoid and solenoid plunger spring. that is a 50/50 fix for the problem as
i remember the heavy duty solenoids also were prone to the heat breaking down
the electromagnetic field needed to "energise and engauge" the starter as well.

any thoughts or leads gang?

chuck.
towing with a '79 van with a 305 V8 with 390,000 miles on it is not insanity,
it's an adventure!
*grin* . c'mon gang, it's a vintage van towing a vintage race car.......
