Glen,
I also have a smoothcase that does not whine, but I had to send mine to
England for the proper rebuild. In 4000 miles it has given me no trouble and
has
yet to make any funny noises. (keeping my fingers crossed) You had a ride in my
car that day in Gardena and Gerard has driven my car. Gerard will tell you that
it is a very "tight" transmission which really surprised him. He also said that
it still needs a 1275 and Datsun trans to really enjoy the car.
As far as a chrome plater, Long Beach chrome plating did all of the chrome
on my car for less than $300. Did a very competent job of it. If anything is
not up to snuff when you inspect the final plating, they will simply do it over.
Have the number somewhere if your interested.
