RE: Ugh

So, is there some kind of parts (i.e. stopper, gasket etc.) that certain 
engines have that enable them to be non-interference motors?  Or is it just a 
piston to valve distance thing?  And if that is the case...the longer rods for 
higher compression would definitely make a difference then right?
