1275 distributor cap

What's the deal with these side-entry caps?  Both Moss and VB sell a cap, but 
it looks like mine has the wires surgically attached.  Conveniently the Haynes 
manual only describes the 1500 distributors, which I already know all about.  
Do the wires detach?
