It is possible to do 0 - 60 in a Spridget with about 100 bhp. Sometimes it
is not so much that goes into a car that makes it quicker but what goes out.
I have weight tickets going back about 10 years that show a sure and steady
reduction in the weight of my Spridget. The weight reduction makes a
difference not only to acceleration but the general handling of the car.
My Sprite which is 100% road going (but would shame some racing Spridgets,
even in modified classes - IMHO) puts to shame mostly anything on the road
and the first time I can recall being outclassed (though missing the 1st to
2nd gear shift did not help) was when I came up against the Lotus Elise. Any
what I can't overtake on power I overtake under braking on the approach to a
roundabout and boy do people get upset when that happens to them (especially
so a 200bhp Sierra Cosworth).
It doesn't take a lot to get a sub 10 second Sprite and 105mph performance,
only when you want to go beyond those figures does it start to get seriously
expensive.

Apparently your 0-60 time has gone from 17 seconds to
what, under 10? So, perhaps that cam added, 100hp? Now
giving you 150hp per liter? No need to buy that Honda
S2000 anymore.
I love my Midget. It corners well, and the sensation
of speed is very high. However, in stoplight drag
racing, it's a non-starter. I am not exaggerating when
I say that minivans, SUVs, family wagons, really anything
else on the road will COMPLETELY take it to the
cleaners.
Go to a track one day and observe how much must go
into a car to reduce it's 0-60 or quarter mile times
by 10 or 20%. Keep that in mind when you see claims
of magic on the lists.
Again, it's a matter of realism. Spridgets are slow,
although the 1500s much less so. ;>
