On my MKII, (think its the same) Facing the inside of the engine compartment.
One the fire wall on the right side of the battery there are 3 holes 1.
closest to battery is the tach cable; 2. is wiring harness for wiper motor; 3.
is for washer bottle tube. It routs behind the heater box and is attached to
one of the heater box clips with a black rubber tie holder thing. (reproduced
by Todd Clarke). The cable is then routed through the flat metal piece that
has two holes in it. The small bottom hole is attached behind the starter
switch by the same nut. The tach cable is then routed through the top hole
which has a rubber grommet. So the tach cable is routed above the starter
switch not to left or right.

 (3) Is the oil sender pipe zinc plated or is it left the natural steel
 color? >>
Natural steel. I coated mine with Nylack (Eastwoods) which keeps the thing
from rusting for a long time.
