Sean,
Have you checked the pressure of your new mechanical fuel pump?
I recently bought one from Carquest and it's pressure (as measured on a
gauge) is twice that of the electric SU pump on my 1275 Midget (approx 5 Vs
2.5) I'm thinking it might be the cause of my ZS running rich (the high
pressure overcoming the float bowl, if you know what i mean)
This might be part of your problem, I don't know. I went back to
Carquest to see if a pressure regulator was needed. They looked it up on
the computer but there was no regulator listed.
Just something to think (worry) about.
Regards, Adrian.
