My local tire guy suggested using a thick smear of RTV over the spokes
instead of the tire bands or duct tape.  He uses it on all the modern 
wire wheels he services with no problems.  He just goops it on and uses
his hand to smear a level layer above the spokes all the way around.
It looks very tidy.  Anyone have any experience with this?  Takes 24 hrs
to dry he says.
