Well...
The switch on the 1969 MG Midget (at least on car #70554) I a cheap,
plastic, Lucas made affair.
It has a Black plastic, rounded face, frame deal which is held in place in
the dash with a springy metal thing. The switch body is held in this frame
by tabs on the switch's top and bottom. The springy thing CANNOT be
removed while the switch body is in place.
The factory preffered method might be to try to press the switch's
retaining tabs by feel and pull out the switch.
This being impossible (especially not having any idea what the tabs were,
where they were, or how they wanted to be pushed) I developed my own
method...
1) Reach up under the dash.
2) Disconnect the wires going to the switch.
3) Push (HARD) the switch from behind, mounting frame and all.
4) Keep pushing until you see the retaining tabs.
5) Press the retaining tabs and remove the switch body.
6) Remove the springy thing and frame from the dash.
7) Straighten out the springy thing, because you just pushed it where it
never thought it would have to go.
TA-DA... got the switch out...fixed it...saved $30.00
