I would try got stick to 23.5" or less OD. And 8" or
less bulge on a 1500. Lowered or on a roundtail try to
stick to 23" or less.

You could get Kumho Ecsta V700s in 185/55vr14 or
195/55vr14 if you want a high performance tire ($110+
tire).
There are a lot of 175/65r14s that will fit. (23" OD)
Personally, I don't like the selection of tires
available in the 14's.
