Not sure why you want to take the stub axle out. You're probably like me,
take every single part out and put it back together (if we can). I tried
taking my stub axle out last winter with a big hammer and only succeeded in
flattening the nut and the threads.
If you want to paint the uprights, I would suggest leaving the stub axle
alone and cover up the exposed parts.
