Hopefully you'll get this...

That pin is the pivot point for the throwout bearing housing to
move forward and disengage the clutch when the clutch pedal is
depressed (and feeling blue).  When it sheers or falls out, which
is fairly common btw, the clutch will still disengage, but there is
enough slop that it may drag a bit which will make shifting difficult
especially in first and reverse.  So that's good news - sounds like
maybe the synchos in the tranny weren't that bad after all.  (Wasn't
it a Triumph specialist that diagnosed the transmission?  I'm
surprised that the missing pin wasn't the first thing that they
thought of).
