I appreciate I risk starting a political debate, which the Spitfire list is
not the place for, BUT...

Surely the US has sanctions against all the Middle Eastern countries that
the US government believes are responsible for terrorism - sanctions that
would prevent oil being exported to the US. The oil that does get to the US
from the Middle East is therefore from the friendlier countries such as
Saudi Arabia - countries that allowed the US to have military bases in their
country for the last war on Iraq, and who the US needs to remain friendly so
that the military can again be based there if another war comes.

By refusing to buy Middle Eastern oil you will be hurting the US's allies
more than the percieved enemy.

It is the sort of gross generalisation that all Middle Eastern countries,
and/or all Islamic countries, are terrorists and enemies of the US, that is
making peace hard to come by, and could turn those countries who do not have
a problem with the US into countries that do.

If you want to buy US oil for reasons of supporting your own economy, that's
a fine motivation, go ahead. But if you think it will make any difference
to terrorism, I reckon you're heading down the wrong path.

Now, if you could pursuade the Russians to stop buying Iraqi oil, THEN you
might be on to something!
