Also try to remember just when the thrust washers are working the hardest.
It is when you the driver have the clutch pedal depressed. Try to adjust
your driving so that when the car is at rest, the transmission is in neutral
and your foot is off the clutch pedal. It was explained to me by technical
people at British Leyland that the the thrust washers were an issue in the US
due to the drivers holding the clutch pedal down while the Europeans
apparently did not.
It's worked for me, anyway...
