Paul,

There is no safety switch on the clutch of the Spitfire.  When this car was
 designed safety wasn't exactly the top priority - after all, there isn't any
 roll-over protection, side impact bars, air-bags, crumple zones etc. (which
 makes the 'Fasten Seat Belts' warning all the more incongruous).  Sounds like
 you've got some sort of wiring problem to sort out (as well as your frozen
 clutch M/C).

Did you have more info on the condition of the motor rather than just 'shot'?
 Just because it will turn over doesn't mean it will run!
