I had my alternator rebuilt, and now I know I have a short. BUT, I'm not
sure where. I think it's in the distributor, because when I charge the
battery and turn the car on (2nd switch position) smoke starts to come out
from under the distributor cap. I traced a short from the fuse box and found
it led to the headlight switch and the horns, which coincidentally I was
working on before. However, I fail to see how this could manifest itself in
the distributor, and I'm worried that there is a second short. I know that
the low tension coil-to-distributor wire is heating up, at least at the
points, but I can't seem to find anything really BURNING in there (I
replaced the old wiring; that MIGHT have been it). I'm worried that I'm
burning my capacitors, so I'm replacing them each time I see smoke. I'm
running low on those guys, so before I try again I thought I'd get a little
advice. Anyone have any? I'd appreciate it very much. Thanks!
