I recently removed my tank and the gasket was located between the tank and
the sending unit. Since this is the first time the tank had been removed
(I'm the original owner) I would say that this is how it came from the
factory.

I had 6 replies to my question about the location of the gasket:
1 reply was to locate the gasket between the clip lock and the sender,
4 replies were to place a gasket between the sender and gas tank,
1 reply was a description of his original tank where there are 2 gaskets,
one on both sides of the sender.
