Hi all,

I have just aquired a nice 1980 spitfire 1500 with a slight wheel arch rust
problem (hence its name "Rusty").

It came with a hardtop, which I have not even attempted to collect yet. But
I did notice that the fitting bolts etc.. which I found in the boot do not
resemble the bits in the diagram in the Haynes manual or Rimmer Bros
catalogue. The bag contains 2 headless bolts about 20 cm long with a kink in
them, 6 small nuts, two L shaped brackets, and a couple of washers. Does
this list of bits sound correct for this car?

I am planning to replace all of the brake lines, discs, pads, and shoes as
they seem a little corroded. When I do this I was looking into switching to
silicone brake fluid. I understand that this should require a complete clean
of the entire system i.e. all cylinders but on a scan through the Rimmer
brothers catalogue (page 105) they seem to state that it is safe to mix it
with normal spec fluid so a thorough clean is not necessary. This is not
right is it?

Now to find a new gearbox tunnel cover as someone seems to have cut a great
big hole in the one I have. I found out when, after jet washing the engine,
the floor in the car was very wet.
